We heard about Guerna through our partners in Haiti that she was severely burned. Move to Matter took immediate action and sponsored her for a year allowing her to heal by getting the nutrition and medical help she desperately needed!
From Morgan in Haiti:
When I met sweet little Guerna in December 2014, she sat alone on a chair in the general hospital - quiet and pale as a ghost - staring off into the distance. Her eyes were sunken in, her hair was blonde from undernourishment. Her entire body was covered in infected burn wounds and leaking puss. Yet she had the smile and gentle voice of an angel.
Soon her older brother came, he was the one who took her to the hospital a week after hot oil had spilled over her.
The good news is that Guerna is no longer in the stagnant general hospital where she'd spent a month hospitalized and still had pus seeping from her infected burn wounds all over her body. Her older brother transferred her to a better hospital because of the support of Move to Matter in Port au Prince, which specializes in children.
Guerna's recovery costs will be quite high. What a blessing Move to Matter is - saving lives, changing lives, developing a future!!
Monthly nutritional support will be very important for her - and the vitamin supplements - at first as it will be critical for her being able to heal from such massive wounds, and also because she is so malnourished in the first place. Nutritional support is priority over school for now, if we had to choose one (medical and nutritional being priority). She has never been to school yet, so once she is well enough to go home we will work on that.
Update
Yesterday I visited Guerna and her caring brother - yet I barely recognized the little girl! She has been healing incredibly well...and looked so healthy! Guerna is the most beautiful, sweetest little girl.... is just gorgeous.
SO GREAT to have you as our partners :)
